Start-up firm’s rapid expansion has created over 20 new jobs for educational psychologists, specialist teachers and trainees.
Applied Psychologies, an independent educational psychology (EP) service working in early years, primary, secondary and SEN schools, has more than tripled staff numbers in under two years. The company moved into its first permanent office in Hesslewood Hall Business Centre in Hull in 2017 with seven staff. Since then, it has since grown significantly to a team of 24, opened a satellite office in Liverpool and has become the leading EP service in the Humber region.
Currently serving close to 100 schools and alternative provision settings, Applied Psychologies’ team offer schools, teachers and families a range of services covering assessment and intervention, training, whole school projects, and therapy. Applied Psychologies was established in 2012 by Dr David Lamb and Dr Jonny Craig, and has built a strong reputation across the North of England from Hull in the East to Liverpool in the West.
Dr David Lamb, director said: “Both Jonny and I are very proud of the team we have at Applied Psychologies. They work incredibly hard with the schools, teachers and children to build strong relationships and most importantly trust, so much so that most of our growth has come from fantastic feedback and referrals."
The demand for our services continues to be high across the Humber region butnow we are seeing similar growth across Lincolnshireand Liverpool as more schools and alternative provision settings find out about our team. So, our next step is to expand to more geographical locations across West and South Yorkshire and the North West, spanning the M62.”
The company has a successful graduate program that provides roles for graduate psychologists to work alongside qualified professionals, thus gaining valuable first-hand experience as part of their formal qualifications.
Applied Psychologies is also investing in a pioneering new mobile app to support teachers in assessing reading capabilities and developing reading skillsin primary and secondary school children. This will be the first of its kind in the UK, and will be launched this year.
Dr Lamb continued: “Exploring digital opportunities to improve teacher and student outcomes in a learning environment, is an exciting new area for us. We are also increasing resources to focus on whole school working and whole trust working. Here, we work at systemic level to create a psychology blue print focusing on student and staff wellbeing, training and supporting SEND policy that is implemented throughout the school/trust.”
Applied Psychologies’ range of training services includes precision teaching, child and adult mental health, and positive behaviour management. The company also facilitates regular group training sessions for newly qualified teachers (NQT).
