About the event
Jeffrey Boakye joins Applied Psychologies to discuss race in education. A powerful session exploring the history of racism in the UK and how we're still dealing with the consequences today.Â
Tickets £35 +VAT pp.
Not to be missed - Jeffrey Boakye, author of Hold Tight: Black Masculinity, Millennials, and the Meaning of Grime and Black, Listed: Black British Culture Explored, joins us for a powerful and frank exploration of unconscious bias in education.
Using a mixture of analogy and real life experiences as both student and teacher, Jeffrey walks us through a brief history of racism, how that is still playing out in our education system and most importantly, what you can do about it.
This session will challenge you and inspire you to do more to address the unconscious bias in our education system, our communites and our institutions.
"It’s not enough for adults to be not racist. We need to lean into anti-racism, and every school needs to become a site of this anti-racist work." Jeffrey Boakye
Jeffrey creates an open forum to disucss and learn without judgement. Here's what previous attendees had to say...
"100% essential. It opens our eyes to something that is right in front of our faces but we cannot see. And once you’ve seen it you can’t stop seeing it!"
"I found Jeffrey an engaging speaker, who delivered extremely well and managed to invite thought-provoking discussion, which felt extremely important within an all-white team."
"Jeffrey’s use of analogy to teach was inspired. Makes the content difficult to forget."
"Impactful, worthwhile and an important topic to keep returning to for ongoing consideration - it was just a shame that the time  was limited as I feel we just scratched the surface of what is a vast, multi-layered topic."
